Washington County Jail Roster Overview
The official local jail roster is the WCSO Current Inmates table, also embedded on the sheriff's Who's in Jail page. It is free and did not require a login during the May 27, 2026 research inspection. Sheriff Richard Stringer's office operates the Washington County Jail at 45 Court Street in Chatom.
The roster covers county jail custody, not every person with a Washington County criminal case. - If no match appears, call the jail at (251) 847-2202, check the weekly booking page, search AlaCourt, or use ADOC/BOP/ICE if custody may have moved.
Washington County Roster Search Fields

The table format is useful for a quick custody check, but it is not a complete booking file and does not replace a call to the jail when bond, release, or hold status matters.
Finding County, State, and Federal Inmates
Choose the locator by custody type. A person arrested by WCSO, Chatom, Millry, McIntosh, ALEA, or another local agency may begin at Washington County Jail. A person sentenced to state prison is tracked by ADOC. Federal and immigration custody are separate from the county roster.

The sheriff's website did not expose a dedicated Washington County online public-records request form during research. Include the inmate's full name, approximate booking date, charge or hold information if known, and the specific record sought. Alabama public-records law supports inspection and copying of public writings, and the sheriff jail-book statute is directly relevant to inmate record access. Even so, WCSO may redact or withhold investigative material, juvenile records, medical details, security-sensitive information, and other confidential material. For filed criminal cases, use Washington County Circuit Clerk or AlaCourt rather than asking the jail to explain the court docket. That distinction keeps a jail-custody request separate from certified case records, court settings, and final dispositions from the clerk.
Notifications, App, and Roster Backups
Washington County research located Alabama victim-notification options through VINELink and the Alabama Victim Notification System. AVNS registration includes contact and notification choices such as email, text message, U.S. mail, and certified mail. Those tools are for notification and custody-status awareness; they are not the same as a complete Washington County booking file.
A Google Play listing was also found for a "Washington County Sheriff's" app with package ID com.washingtoncoso.app. The listing advertises inmate information, mugshots and booking details, wanted persons, alerts, and public records. Because the sheriff website pages reviewed did not show an app badge and no iOS listing was confirmed, treat the app as a possible supplemental channel and verify details directly before relying on it.

Booking Process in Washington County
Local WCSO pages do not publish a full intake workflow, but the practical path is clear: arrest, transport to Washington County Jail unless another custody system applies, jail intake, then a public roster entry when the person appears in the MobileSO-hosted table. The public record may show only name, date, bond amount, and charge labels.
Bond or hold status can affect release. WCSO states that no one will be released by bond between 4:30 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. for jail safety and security. A listed bond amount also may not clear a person if another-agency hold, probation issue, warrant, or detainer blocks release.
Visitation Hours and Rules
Washington County Jail public visitation is narrow and appointment-based. Inmates may place two names on a visitation card, and visitors on the card should call the jail during the appointment window for that week.

No children are allowed in the lobby. Visitors cannot bring cell phones, purses, or bags, and the dress code prohibits shorts, tank tops, leggings, tight-fitting clothing, and skirts or pants above the knee.
How to Contact a Washington County Inmate
Send inmate mail to P.O. Box 307, Chatom, Alabama 36518, with the inmate's name and a return address on the letter. WCSO rejects personal checks, cash, photos, blank paper, envelopes, stickers, glitter, glue, tape, food, gum, wrappers, third-party letters, and mail with perfume, powder, cologne, body fluids, hair, kisses, or depictions of violence, sex, or gang affiliation.
Commissary and Inmate Funds
The official WCSO pages reviewed did not publish a commissary vendor, phone vendor, remote-video vendor, kiosk system, online-deposit tool, phone rates, or tablet rules. WCSO mail rules do say that money orders made payable to the inmate are accepted through the mail, while personal checks and cash are not.
